The recent remake of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC has faced heavy criticism from fans due to poor performance, new bugs, and graphical changes that, in some cases, are considered worse than the original. To make matters worse, it appears that PlayStation is removing the original PS4 version of Until Dawn from sale in certain regions, leaving the more expensive remake as the only option.
The original Until Dawn—available exclusively on PlayStation 4—has been on sale digitally since its release nine years ago. However, players have reported that the 2015 version is no longer purchasable on the PlayStation Store.
We checked the UK version of the store across different platforms, including a web browser, PS5 console, and the PlayStation Mobile app. While the game remained available for £15.99 on the console, it was marked as "not available for purchase" on both the browser and the mobile app.
As of now, the game is still available on the US PlayStation Store, but other regions have also experienced availability issues. Given the recent price increase of Horizon Zero Dawn ahead of its remaster and the removal of that original title from platforms like the Epic Games Store, there are concerns that Until Dawn might face a similar fate.
For players who have already purchased the original Until Dawn, the game can still be downloaded from their PlayStation library on both PS4 and PS5. Those with physical copies will continue to be able to play the game.
With fans voicing their disappointment over the changes in the Until Dawn 2024 remake, the idea of the original version disappearing is alarming. As the industry shifts toward a digital-only future—with consoles like the PS5 Pro potentially phasing out discs—the possibility of games being removed without a physical backup raises serious concerns.
