Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Switch Review

In the latest Mario installment, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the iconic plumber duo returns in a delightful 2D adventure that'll charm both classic enthusiasts and new-age gamers alike. Revisiting the beloved 2D platformer format, the game's core mechanics of running, jumping, and defeating enemies remain true to its roots, while introducing new power-ups like the comical elephant form, adding an extra layer of whimsy to the experience.

What truly sets Super Mario Bros. Wonder apart is the introduction of Wonder Flowers. These flowers transform the surroundings, offering unique challenges and altering gameplay dynamics. Collecting the elusive Wonder Seeds during these altered states adds a layer of complexity and excitement, making it a thrilling yet tricky pursuit.

The game's overworld structure is a refreshing blend of node-based sections and open areas, empowering players to choose their own path through various levels. The difficulty level, indicated by star ratings, allows for a customizable experience. With secrets aplenty, navigating through the campaign promises an engaging and rewarding journey.

Challenges come in abundance, catering to different playstyles. Whether you're a completionist searching for secrets or prefer tackling tough puzzles and platforming segments, the game accommodates varied preferences. The badge system adds an extra layer of strategy, although the ease of boss battles might leave some players craving more excitement.

While local co-op offers an enjoyable multiplayer experience, the absence of certain mechanics found in previous Mario titles dampens the cooperative fun. However, the diverse character selection, including favorites like Yoshi, adds diversity to the gameplay. Online multiplayer mirrors the local experience, with the innovative Standees system adding a global community aspect to the gameplay.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder lives up to its name by delivering a magical and unpredictable journey. With its inventive twists and turns, paired with a surprising level of challenge, the game ensures a delightful and engaging experience for players of all skill levels.
